FAQs for DCJ (formally known as FACs) moving to Homes North Repairs and Maintenance

General Transfer information: What is changing?
  • Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) / and Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) (formerly Family and Community Services – FACS) is transferring the management of your repairs and maintenance to Homes North.
  • Homes North will continue to manage your tenancy
General Transfer information: What is a Community Housing Provider?
  • Registered community housing providers (CHPs) are generally not for profit organisations managed by a Board of Directors. They manage the properties they own as well as properties owned by the government or that are rented from private landlords with government funding. The community housing sector is independently regulated under the National Regulatory Scheme for Community Housing and DCJ also monitors community housing providers to make sure they provide the best possible service to their tenants.
General Transfer information: What does this change from Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) to Homes North mean for me?
  • The management of your repairs and maintenance will automatically transfer from Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) to Homes North on July 1, 2021.
  • The length of your tenancy and your rights as a tenant will stay the same.
  • Please continue to use the current 24 hour repairs call number of 1800 422 322 until July 1, 2021
Summit Tenants Narrabri and Wee Waa: If I live in Narrabri or Wee Waa who will be doing the repairs and maintenance on my property?
  • Homes North will be managing all repairs and maintenance for properties in Narrabri and Wee Waa.
  • Summit will still manage your tenancy
  • Please continue to use the current repairs 24 hour call number of 1800 422 322 until July 1, 2021
  • The number to call for repairs and maintenance from July 1 is 1800 592 333
  • After Hours emergency repairs: call 1300 662 721 after July 1.
  • If you have any issue with repairs not being carried out, you can talk to your CRO about this.
Repairs and Maintenance: Will Homes North be doing the repairs on my house that Department of Communities and Justice has not done?
  • All repairs on previous Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) (formerly FACS) properties will now be managed by Homes North
  • You can request repairs from Homes North by calling 1800 592 333, from July 1, 2021
  • Any previous requests for repairs that Department of Communities and Justice has started before July 1 will be completed by Land and Housing Corporation
  • If a request for repairs was not agreed to by Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) your request can be provided to Homes North for reconsideration

  • After Hours emergency repairs: call 1300 662 721
  • If you have any issue with repairs not being carried out, you can talk to your CRO about this
Repairs and Maintenance: Does Homes North look after Common Areas (Unit dwellers)?
  • Common areas for unit dwellers will be looked after Homes North
Aboriginal Housing: If I am living in Aboriginal Housing (AHO) and I am not Aboriginal will I have to move from this property?
  • Homes North won’t be managing repairs and maintenance for Aboriginal Housing properties (AHO).
  • If you are in an Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) property, you will continue to be managed by LAHC. Your contact number remains 1800 422 322 and is a 24 hour service.
Modifications: I have an Occupational Therapy (OT) report and Department of Communities and Justice has agreed to modify my property. If it is not done by June 30 will I have to submit a new OT report to Homes North?
  • No you don’t have to submit a new Occupational Therapy report.
Modifications: I would like my property modified. What is the process?
  • You should put in an application to an Occupational Therapist (OT)  to provide a report to Homes North for consideration
